Experience A Profound Musical Journey Through History and Humanity as Raincity Theatre presents ‘Parade’
An immersive and intimate production of Jason Robert Brown’s musical masterpiece unfurls a heartbreaking tale of triumph and struggle
One of Vancouver’s most innovative theatre companies returns with a new site-specific rendition of composer Jason Robert Brown's Tony-winning musical, Parade, from March 21 to April 13, 2024, at 191 Alexander Street in Vancouver’s historic Gastown. This powerful production tells the tragic yet compelling true story of the trial and lynching of an innocent man accused of murder, brought to tangible life on Raincity’s intimate stage.
“Our production of Parade will plunge our guests into the depths of human emotion, amidst the backdrop of a true historical event that still resonates today,” says director Chris Adams. “The passion, and the tragedy of Leo and Lucille Frank's story, enveloped in the haunting beauty of Jason Robert Brown's score will be simply unforgettable and I hope the undeniable resilience of the human spirit will deeply move audiences.”
Parade delves into themes of religious intolerance, political injustice, and racial tension, unraveling a tale that explores the enduring power of love and hope against all odds. Parade’s book was written by two-time Tony Award winner, Pulitzer Prize recipient, and Academy Award winner Alfred Uhry and co-conceived by the legendary 21-time Tony Award-winning icon Harold Prince.
Featuring an incredible cast of accomplished performers led by Jesse Award-winning team of Adams and choreographer and co-producer Nicol Spinola, Parade takes audiences face-to-face with the complicated emotions and complex truths of a community caught in the throes of a tumultuous period in American history.
Parade’s cast comprises a veritable who’s who of the Vancouver theatre scene: Stephen Aberle, Erin Aberle-Palm, Zac Bellward, Ivy Charles, Cassandra Consiglio, Josh Epstein, Alina Fenrick, Alexis Hope, Victor Hunter, Warren Kimmel, Tainui Kuru, Miranda MacDougall, Jennie Neumann, Richard Newman, Ricardo, Vuk Prodanovic, Thailey Roberge, Madison Simms, Kaitlyn Truss, and Tanner Zerr all make up the luminary ensemble. Director Adams and choreographer Spinola worked together on Raincity Theatre’s Sweeney Todd, Company, and Cabaret. Musical Direction is by Sean Bayntun and Dawn Pemberton is the show’s Vocal/Choral Director.
